Garbage have released One Mile High…Live on DVD and what a release it is. This was recorded on their “comeback” tour in 2012 before an enthusiastic crowd. It was filmed, as you might expect from the title, in Denver as part of the U.S. leg of their world tour of that year. It was the first time the band had toured for seven years. It is no understatement to say that this band is firing on all cylinders in this performance. Clearly their time apart and their other outlets have done nothing to quell their passion for the band’s output. Shirley Manson, their red-headed Scottish singer, has lost none of the qualities that bewitched so many upon release of their debut. As you might expect, songs like incredibly catchy hits “Stupid Girl” and the mild goth of “Only Happy When It Rains” evoke enthusiasm from the crowd. Tracks for their return release, Not Your Kind of People, were greeted well by the crowd. There is a good mixture of new and old to keep the audience happy. The filming looks good and does an excellent job of give you the feeling of what it is like at their show. It clearly shows what strong performers Garbage are when they are firing on all cylinders as live band. Clearly they were not suffering ill effects from the being “mile high”.
DVD extras include a pre-show warm up (for those that must see every bit of the band) as well as music videos for “Big Bright World” and “Blood for Poppies”. Interestingly enough, there are also featurettes. They are: “Automatic Systematic”, “Battle In Me”, “Big Bright World”, “Blood For Poppies”, and “Control”.
Needless to say this is a must for fans of this band and well worth the price of entry. Manson, Butch Vig, and the rest of the band deliver a cracking performance on this release.
