Miklós Rózsa (April 18, 1907 – July 27, 1995) was a Hungarian-born composer and conductor, best known for his numerous film scores. Along with such composers as Bernard Herrmann, Erich Wolfgang Korngold, Alfred Newman, Max Steiner and Franz Waxman, Rózsa is considered to be one of the "founding fathers of film music". Rózsa was one of the most respected and popular composers working in Hollywood. He is also regarded today as one of the greatest film score composers of all time. In a career that spanned over fifty years, he composed music for nearly 100 films, including Spellbound (1945), Quo Vadis (1951), Ben-Hur (1959), and King of Kings (1961).
In addition to three Oscars and 16 nominations, Rózsa remains one of the most nominated composers in Oscar history. He also received — but did not win — three Golden Globe nominations as well as an Grammy Award nomination for the MGM Records album of Ben-Hur.

The original music to Ben-Hur was conducted by the composer and performed during recording sessions that took place between June and December 1959. The film was previewed several times and after every preview the music was rewritten. Even after the final notes had been recorded, the film was heavily cut and the already recorded music track was also cut to fit the newer, shorter film. In all, more than three hours of music were recorded, including a number of alternate versions.

This 3-cd edition:
The first two albums will enable you hear the complete original film score for the very first time as it was originally intended, in excellent stereo. The music can be listened to chronologically, as it appeared in the film. Some of the tracks that had been poorly edited at the time have now been newly sequenced into a better, smoother-sounding version. The third cd should be strictly looked upon as of documentary value only. The music on this album will enable you to compare the film version with the original recording sessions and it will also introduce themes that were left on the cutting room floor.
