It is hard to believe that this is the first release under the name of alto saxophonist Marshall Allen, who was 73 years old when this CD was recorded. In truth, this appears to have been a cooperative group effort by this fine quartet, which includes alto saxophonist Mark Whitecage, bassist Dominic Duval, and fellow Sun Ra alumnus, drummer Luqman Ali. The group had never played before this recording, and the whole affair has the feel of an unrehearsed pickup session. Nonetheless, with players so good, most everything manages to fall into line. The impromptu song selection amuses, with the intensely performed "Fly Me to the Moon" a delight. There is a somewhat informal, and even self-indulgent feeling throughout, but that is forgivable, given the high level of musicianship. Still, there is a lingering feeling that more might have been accomplished. All Music Guide
