The Malcolm Campbell Trio is a young, vibrant group that is keeping the tradition of acoustic jazz alive while staying in touch with the spirit of their generation. Consisting of rising stars, Malcolm on piano, Zwelakhe-Duma Bell Pere on Bass and Charles Burchell on drums. Its sound has been described as “powerful, energetic and passionate” and draws from influences as diverse as Ahmad Jamal, J Dilla and Jason Moran.

Malcolm Campbell
Malcolm Campbell is a jazz pianist and composer from Lexington, MA. As the first jazz musician in the Harvard/New England Conservatory dual degree program, Malcolm has studied under Danilo Perez, Frank Carlberg, Fred Hersch and Jerry Bergonzi. He graduated from Harvard University in 2010 with a degree in Chemistry and Physics summa cum laude. He is now working towards a Masters in Music from the New England Conservatory (expected 2011). He has performed at Carnegie Hall's Weill Recital Hall, the New England Conservatory's Jordan Hall, and Symphony Hall, and at the Montreux Jazz Festival, the Aspen Jazz Festival, and Monterrey Next Generation Jazz Festival. He has performed with Don Byron, Billy Hart, Roy Hargrove, Cecil McBee, Lee Konitz, Mark O'Connor, Lee Konitz, and Makoto Ozone, and has played in masterclasses for Yo Yo Ma, Herbie Hancock, Joshua Redman, Aaron Goldberg, Jason Moran, and Dave Holland. An avid classical pianist as well, Malcolm draws influences from Bach, Rachmaninoff, and Debussy.

Zwelakhe-Duma Bell LePere
Zwelakhe-Duma Bell LePere is a bass player from South Africa by way of Conneticut and graduated form the New England Conservatory in 2011 where he studied with Jason Moran, Cecil McBee and Donald Palma. He performed and gave clinics at the 2011 Panama Jazz Festival and was recipient of the 2011 Betty Carter Zazz Fellowship. He will be pursuing his Music Masters at the New England Conservatory this fall.

Charles Burchell
Charles Burchell is a drummer from New Orleans, Louisiana and just finished his junior year at the New England Conservatory. He has toured across the United States with musicians such as Delfeayo Marsalis and Wes Anderson. In addition to being mentored by a large community of New Orleans jazz musicians, Charles has studied extensively with master drummer Billy Hart.
