The accordion and violin are the favorite instruments of jazz in French. Stephane Grappelli and Marcel Azzola are two of the pioneers of this tradition. I paid tribute to Stephane Grappelli in my "Tribute to Stephane Grappelli" and I could not forget the "Great" Marcel Azzola with beaded and poetic phrasing.
This record has been a real joy. The approach of this book devoted to waltz allowed me to reconnect with the roots of my popular and classical music culture. Subtle and sophisticated arrangements of Dimitri Naïditch allow us to live together these two musical style with elegance and freshness.
It was also an opportunity to bring together around this project musicians who have the distinction of having all surrounded at different times in his career Stéphane Grappelli. Scottish guitarist Martin Taylor delights us with his wonderful sense of phrasing which wraps a sound of extraordinary purity. Jean-Philippe Viret he gives us the full range of his talent both pizzicato as the bow. Marcel Azzola proved to be the most serious and hardworking four of us. Tender perfectionist, he gives in this recording full extent of his emotional and melodic genius. A lesson in kindness and humility, a great musician, a great guy.
We hope these waltzes out "four" you drunken much by listening that we have turned the heads when we have recorded. Didier Lockwood
