Upon graduating he was awarded a scholarship to study at St. Mary's College in Washington, where he continued to pursue his new love of improvisation. Starting in 1993, he garnered a national reputation for his flawless technique and exceptionally personal sound, touring under bandleaders like George Russell, Dave Liebman, and the great Steve Coleman.

Teddi King - The Storyville Sessions 1954-1955 (2013)
Vocal Jazz | MP3 320 kbps CBR | 60 min | 137 MB
Label: Fresh Sound Records | Rel: 2013

Possibly because of the sheer perfection of her vocal technique, Teddi King (1929-1977) may not have immediately seemed to some to be a jazz singer. But, in a career that included work with such piano luminaries as Nat Pierce, George Shearing and Dave McKenna, she won herself a small but discerning following as one of the best.

Keiko Matsui is usually classified as a jazz musician, which tends to mean that she doesn't get very good reviews, since she is reviewed by jazz critics, while her music actually is best described as a hybrid consisting of equal parts pop, jazz, and new age...

Al Di Meola - Elegant Gypsy (1977) {Columbia}
EAC 0.99pb5 | FLAC tracks level 8 | Cue+Log+M3U | Full Scans 600dpi | 262MB + 5% Recovery
Genre: Fusion

Guitarist Al DiMeola's second record as a leader is generally an explosive affair, although it does have a fair amount of variety. With Jan Hammer or Barry Miles on keyboards, electric bassist Anthony Jackson, drummer Lenny White (Steve Gadd takes his place on the "Elegant Gypsy Suite" ), and percussionist Mingo Lewis on most of the selections, DiMeola shows off his speedy and rockish fusion style. He was still a member of Return to Forever at the time and was a stronger guitarist than composer, but DiMeola did put a lot of thought into this music. The brief "Lady of Rome, Sister of Brazil" (an acoustic guitar solo) and "Mediterranean Sundance" (an acoustic duet with fellow guitarist Paco de Lucia) hints at DiMeola's future directions. A near classic in the fusion vein.

Genre: Jazz | Label: Real Gone Music | Catalog Number: 400341

As one of the greatest and most popular female pop singers working during radio s Golden Age, Peggy Lee made her share of appearances on the dial, particularly on her own radio show that, starting in 1951, was broadcast over the CBS network and the Armed Forces Radio Service. But, unlike many of her contemporaries who have had their on-air performances compiled into collections both legitimate and not, Peggy has never really enjoyed a proper retrospective of her radio appearances...until now!

Al Di Meola - Splendido Hotel (1980)
Jazz | 1cd | EAC Rip | Ape + Cue + Log | covers
CBS 467090 2 | rem: 1990 | 490Mb

Talk about ambitious. This two-LP set finds guitarist Al di Meola performing with his quintet of the time (featuring keyboardist Philippe Saisse), with studio musicians, solo, in a reunion with pianist Chick Corea, singing a love song, and welcoming veteran Les Paul for a version of "Spanish Eyes." Most of the music works quite well and it shows that di Meola (best-known for his speedy rock-oriented solos) is a surprisingly well-rounded and versatile musician.

John Coltrane and Johnny Hartman (1963) Remastered Reissue 2005
EAC | FLAC | Image (Cue&Log) ~ 180 Mb (incl 5%) | Mp3 (CBR320) ~ 88 Mb (incl 5%) | Scans included
Genre: Hard Bop, Vocal Jazz, Standarts | Label: Impulse! | # 0602498840146 | Time: 00:31:16

John Coltrane's matchup with singer Johnny Hartman, although quite unexpected, works extremely well. Hartman was in prime form on the six ballads, and his versions of "Lush Life" and "My One and Only Love" have never been topped. Coltrane's playing throughout the session is beautiful, sympathetic, and still exploratory; he sticks exclusively to tenor on the date. At only half an hour, one wishes there were twice as much music, but what is here is classic, essential for all jazz collections.

Ariel Pocock - Touchstone (2015)
MP3 320 kbps CBR | 63:18 min | 147 MB
Genre: Vocal Jazz | Label: Justin Time Records

It is nice to be able to feature some current and innovative jazz on LeB, and today we present vocalist and pianist Ariel Pocock and her album Touchstone. A student at the University of Miami Frost School of Music, Pocock has received awards as both a vocalist and as a pianist. On the album, she clearly demonstrates her amazing talent on both instruments, and it sure helps to have a band with the likes of drummer Eric Harland, guitarist Julian Lage, bassist Larry Grenadier, and sax player Seamus Blake. Below you can listen to the opening track on the album, a very unique duo between Pocock and Harland.
