Hong Yan Powell - Baskets Full Of Songs (2002)

Hong Yan Powell was born and raised in the Sichuan province of China. She cannot remember a time when singing was not her first love. While a school teacher, Hong Yan applied, and was selected from amongst thousands of applicants, to study classical singing with two of China’s most famous sopranos, Lan Yi Show and Jong Yi Quan, both of whom had been trained in Europe. Hong Yan Powell launched her debut CD “Baskets Full of Songs” June 14th 2002 at the West Edmonton Christian Reform Church in Edmonton. With her piano player, Roger Admiral, Ph.D., a collection of popular arias and Chinese folk songs – folk music heard by only a select few Canadian ears – was enjoyed by a sold out audience.
