Luci e ombre caratterizzano quest'ambizioso progetto della cantante Flora Faja, già docente presso la Scuola Popolare di Musica "The Brass Group" di Palermo, e del pianista Giovanni Mazzarino che ha curato anche le orchestrazioni.
L'idea è stata quella di rivisitare, in forma di medley, alcuni classici della canzone italiana sviluppandone i percorsi tematici con composizioni originali dei due artisti, in un contesto modern mainstream.

L'organico è a geometria variabile (si va dal trio de "La Gatta/Sogno di gatta" alla piccola formazione orchestrale di "Donna/Donna sei tu") e lascia spazio a pregevoli solisti: lo stesso Mazzarino al pianoforte, Fabrizio Bosso in molti brani, Francesco Cafiso nel tema finale e i bravi Vito Giordano alla tromba e Gaspare Palazzolo al soprano.
Dal punto di vista tecnico-formale il lavoro è apprezzabile: Flora Faja evidenzia l'approccio sofisticato di un canto sempre alla ricerca di alterazioni cromatiche e dissonanze e gli arrangiamenti costruiscono fondali in continuo movimento e traboccanti di note.
In alcune occasioni, però, il suo canto risulta eccessivo, diventando un esercizio stilistico che soffoca l'identità dei vari temi.

Il brano per noi più riuscito è la "Gatta/Sogno di gatta," dove opera il trio, il clima è caldo e la cantante riesce a comunicare emozioni, con intimo appeal e gusto per le sfumature. ~ AllAboutJazz (Sorry, I only found Italian Description)
