If Not Inertia is the third album from the unique New York based electro-acoustic Jazz ensemble, Ergo, again mining areas in sound that no one else in the Jazz idiom approaches. After releasing his debut CD in 2002, Brett Sroka (trombone, computer) began exploring beyond his Jazz background and became fascinated with electronic music, surrounding himself with computers and software. As he sought to reconcile the six hundred years of technology between trombone and computer he found the like-minded musicians Sam Harris (piano, Fender Rhodes) and Shawn Baltazor (drums). If Not Inertia also features critically acclaimed guitarist Mary Halvorson as special guest on over half of the titles. The music is Jazz, certainly, but Jazz that owes as much to Autechre and Sigur Ros as to Ellington and Sun Ra.
