Don't Stop the Carnival is the 23rd studio album by American singer-songwriter Jimmy Buffett. It is based on the 1965 novel of the same name written by Herman Wouk. Wouk also worked with Buffett to produce the Don't Stop the Carnival stage play that lasted only a short run in Miami. The album includes 20 original compositions by Jimmy that were recorded to promote the stage play. It reached #15 in the Billboard 200 albums chart. It was Buffett's first album release with Island Records.

Herman Wouk's novel Don't Stop the Carnival – a tale of a frustrated middle-aged man who dreams of escaping the city for tropical paradise – is the ideal literary vehicle for Jimmy Buffett, a man who made a living selling suburbanites the tropical dream. Buffett convinced Wouk to collaborate with him on a musical adaptation of the novel, which had a brief run in Miami in 1997. To stir up interest in the project, Buffett recorded 20 songs from the show with his Coral Reefer Band. Truth be told, there's little difference between these songs and any other Jimmy Buffett album, but it's actually heartening to hear him craft songs to fit a story. There are a few other vocalists, including narration from Wouk, sprinkled throughout the album, but Don't Stop the Carnival remains a Buffett album, filled with the breezy melodies and laid-back charm that distinguishes all of his work. If anything, the record holds together better than many of his latter-day efforts because he has something new to say, and he has written his strongest set of songs in many a moon. Beach House on the Moon is the 24th studio album by American singer-songwriter Jimmy Buffett. It is his second and last studio album released on Island Records and the last release of Margaritaville Records. It reached #8 on the Billboard 200 chart.

After 30 albums, it would seem as if Jimmy Buffett has said everything he's needed to say, and in a way, that's true. Every once in a while, he'll depart from his sun-kissed, mellow country-rock, such as he did with his music for the audio reading of Hunter S. Thompson's Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas or his musical adaptation of Herman Wouk's Don't Stop the Carnival, but for his regular albums, he hasn't varied his formula in two decades. That's the case with Beach House on the Moon, his 31st effort. Some may make a big deal about the presence of multimedia sections on the disc, but that's because it's the only thing that separates Beach House from Banana Wind, Buffett's last proper studio album. It's the same style of music, recorded in the same way as that 1996 effort, and to all but the dedicated fan, it could be the same record. There are slight difference, however, particularly in the quality of songs. Although some of Beach House seems a little too cutesy for comfort ("You Call It Joggin'," "I Will Play for Gumbo," etc.), it's by and large a stronger effort than Banana Wind, with more distinctive songs. It's still an album for Parrotheads, who will groove with the laid-back vibe and laugh at the silly jokes, and it's unlikely that it will convert any new fans. But it's a solid Buffett record, delivering everything a fan could want – it may not offer anything new, but it doesn't disappoint. Reviewed by Stephen Thomas Erlewine of allmusic.com

Buffett Live - Tuesdays, Thursdays, Saturdays is a live album by American popular music singer-songwriter Jimmy Buffett. The album's material was culled from several concerts during the Don't Stop That Carnival Tour (1998) and Beach House on the Moon Tour (1999). It was the first live album by Buffett since Feeding Frenzy was released in October 1990 and Mailboat Records' debut release. The album reached #37 on the Billboard 200 album chart, #33 on the Independent Chart, and #8 on the Internet Chart. It was certified gold in October 2000.

The album features fan-favorites as well as new or obscure songs that never made it on a previous live release, such as "Fruitcakes", "Trying to Reason With Hurricane Season", "Brown Eyed Girl", "Tin Cup Chalice" and "Love and Luck".

While it is not part of the SYKBH and there has never been a studio release, "Southern Cross" makes its first official release. It was well received when Buffett starting performing it during the Banana Wind Tour (1996) and became a concert staple from 1998 ever since. The song continues to be played at nearly every show and remains a concert favorite, despite never having been recorded in the studio.

The album also features "Pencil Thin Mustache" and "Son of a Son of a Sailor", songs that haven't appeared on a live album for nearly fifteen years.

The remainder of the album features concert standards. Although played at every show, three of the SYKBH failed to make the cut: "A Pirate Looks at Forty", "Why Don't We Get Drunk", and "Changes in Latitudes, Changes in Attitudes" (the latter also left off of Buffett's previous live release, Feeding Frenzy).

The tracklistings show that "Margaritaville" includes the infamous "lost verse". During an East Hampton benefit concert, Buffett forgot that he had included the lost verse on his first live album You Had to Be There and apologized for making it appear that it was the lost verse's debut on this album.

The studio version of "Love and Luck" is available on Boats, Beaches, Bars and Ballads.

Although Jimmy Buffet has never enjoyed tremendous record sales throughout his career, his concerts are always guaranteed sellouts. Buffett's rabidly loyal, often drunken, fun-seeking fan base, the parrotheads, are in no small way responsible for this fact. Buffett Live: Tuesdays, Thursdays, Saturdays tries to capture the essence of a live Buffett concert from the late '90s. This live set gives fans a handful of '90s Buffett tracks as well as many classics that have become staples of his live shows. Listening to tracks like "Fruitcakes," "Coconut Telegraph," and the fan favorite "Fins" (complete with Jaws theme music) you can't help but feel Buffett has brought the crowd to a place where they are having a great time and no one has a care in the world. This is a goal Buffett has always tried to provide for his fans, and he has almost always succeeded. Some of the strongest tracks presented here are "Trying to Reason with the Hurricane Season" and a cover of Crosby, Stills & Nash's "Southern Cross," which features gorgeous backing vocals provided by members of Buffett's Coral Reefer Band. Parrotheads who may feel they have heard most of these tracks on earlier live releases will be happy to hear "Margaritaville" – complete with the lost verse – and every longtime fan will love hearing Buffett dusting off the obscure classic "Tin Cup Chalice." This collection is a nice addition to the collection of a casual fan who already owns and enjoys Buffett's classic Songs You Know by Heart. Buffett's music may not change the world, but it certainly makes it more fun and for a sun-drenched, alcohol-soaked good time you still can't beat Jimmy Buffett. Far Side of the World is the 25th studio album by American singer-songwriter Jimmy Buffett. It is his first studio album released on his own record label, Mailboat Records.

It's easy to compare any singer to their best work, though not always very helpful. In fact, comparing Far Side of the World to A-1-A or A White Sport Coat and a Pink Crustacean is a little like comparing steak to seafood. They're simply two different entrées, and while someone may like steak and dislike seafood, a number of discerning individuals like both. Critics and certain fans may prefer Jimmy Buffett's 1970s output, but the head parrot has long ago sailed on to smoother waters. It's probably more helpful to compare Far Side of the World to albums like Banana Wind and Fruitcakes, where Buffett settled into his role as elder statesman of sun, surf, and sand fantasies. First of all, the arrangements and production on Far Side of the World vary quite a bit from these earlier 1990s efforts. The rich vocal harmony in "Blue Guitar" evokes Paul Simon's Graceland, while the dirty slide guitar of "Last Man Standing" casts a glance back at Little Feat. Still, the basic approach remains the same. Funny songs like "What if the Hokey-Pokey Is All It Really Is About?" remind one of "Vampires, Mummies and the Holy Ghost" (Fruitcakes), while self-referential pieces like "Altered Boy" recall "Only Time Will Tell" and "Cultural Infidel" (Banana Wind). Buffett talks his way through much of the eight-minute "Autour du Rocher," just as he talks his way through much of "Overkill" (Banana Wind) and "Fruitcakes" (Fruitcakes). There are tender moments and outrageous ones, all signifying that only one person could've made this album. Far Side of the World holds up well to Fruitcakes and Banana Wind, and more important still, parrotheads will love it. Reviewed by Ronnie D. Lankford, Jr. of allmusic.com

License to Chill is the 26th studio album by American singer-songwriter Jimmy Buffett. It is his only album to reach No. 1 on the Billboard 200 album chart.

On this album, Buffett has many duets with noted country music artists, on country songs including "Hey Good Lookin’" by Hank Williams. This rendition reached No. 8 on the Billboard country singles charts; another single, "Trip Around the Sun" (a duet with Martina McBride) reached No. 20. The album features the most covers he's recorded for an album - 11 of the 16 songs are covers.

Early in the 2000s, Jimmy Buffett experienced one of his periodic revivals thanks to the legions of contemporary country singers indebted to his sunny, relaxed party music. His influence had been bubbling under during the latter half of the '90s, but in 2003 he suddenly was front and center, performing a duet with Alan Jackson on the "Margaritaville"-styled smash "It's Five O'Clock Somewhere," while echoes of his music were clearly heard in country's first superstar of the new millennium, Kenny Chesney. Never one to miss an opportunity – or, as he puts it in the liner notes, "not being one to let a cultural phenomenon pass me by like a misguided comet" – Buffett decided to go the whole hog and record his own country album, License to Chill, for the summer of 2004. He calls in a lot of favors here, drafting Jackson, Chesney, Toby Keith, Clint Black, George Strait, Martina McBride, Nanci Griffith, and, for a change of pace, Bill Withers, for duets on this generous 16-track album. Usually, such a surplus of guest stars overwhelms the main artist, but that isn't the case here, since everybody bends to fit Buffett's style instead of the reverse. These guests not only give Buffett a straight man for his jokes, but also help focus his musical direction and song selection, since it all feeds into the album's sun-kissed contemporary country direction. Musically, this isn't all that far removed from either his early-'70s work or "It's Five O'Clock Somewhere," which is hardly a surprise, but what is surprising is that it's one of the most enjoyable latter-day albums from this notoriously inconsistent artist. There are still some overly silly, even embarrassing moments, such as the frequent tossed-off puns and the cringe-inducing "Simply Complicated," but these are the exceptions on this cheery collection of laid-back country-rockers and beach ballads. Again, the difference on License to Chill isn't the music, but the consistency of the songwriting and the performances, resulting not only in Buffett's strongest record in years, but an album that sits comfortably next to that new Kenny Chesney album, and that means he accomplished exactly what he set out to do. Live at Fenway Park is a live album by American singer-songwriter Jimmy Buffett and is one of number of Jimmy Buffett sound board live albums recorded directly from the mixing console without further editing thus resembling bootleg recordings.

The album was recorded at Fenway Park ballpark in Boston, Massachusetts on 10 September and 12 September 2004, two dates on Buffett's License to Chill Tour. It was released in November 2005 on two compact discs on Mailboat 2115 and includes a DVD containing 55 minutes of footage from the two shows. It was produced by Michael Utley, a member of Buffett's Coral Reefer Band.

The album includes all of the songs in Buffett's "Big 8" songs that he nearly always performs in concert. Due to the location of the concert in the home stadium of Major League Baseball's Boston Red Sox, Buffett performed several related songs including baseball anthem "Take Me Out to the Ball Game," Red Sox' fan favorite "Sweet Caroline," originally by Neil Diamond, and "Respect," made popular by Aretha Franklin, alluding to the Red Sox success in 2004 (they would go on to win the 2004 World Series) after years of poor performance. Buffett also performed "Boat Drinks" which he says is the only of his songs written in and about Boston.

Live At Fenway Park hit #41 on the American Billboard 200 album chart and #2 on the Independent Albums chart.

At some point, Jimmy Buffett – like the Grateful Dead – learned to turn his music and persona into a cottage industry and big bucks. And while cynics might view the onslaught of CDs, DVDs, and merchandise as crass, the folks buying seem to want it. In Buffett's case, it doesn't hurt that he has a knack for delivering – musically and performance-wise – exactly what fans want on albums like Live at Fenway Park. One shouldn't expect long jams or reinterpretations of classic songs here, but fairly straightforward, competently delivered versions of everything from "Volcano" to "Come Monday" to "Margaritaville." Live at Fenway Park, then, is basically a soundtrack to a Parrothead party that took place in Boston on September 10th and 12th, complete with screaming, happy fans. It's no secret that Buffett's a bit of a goofball, and he loves to talk to the crowd between songs and doesn't even mind shouting out a bit of nonsense right in the middle of a song. What, then, makes this collection special when a number of other live Buffett discs are on the market? Probably the fact that the package holds two complete unedited audio discs and – for the grand finale – has a 55-minute DVD that includes film footage from both shows. Interestingly, it would seem that Buffett, like the Dead and Pearl Jam, has learned that it's fun (and profitable) to release one's own bootlegs. To break out a tired old cliché, Live at Fenway Park is probably the best thing next to being there, and will supply the perfect soundtrack for inviting a few Parrotheads over for margaritas. Take the Weather with You is the 27th studio album by American singer-songwriter Jimmy Buffett. It peaked at #1 on Billboard's country charts, also reaching #4 on the "Billboard 200". 10 of the 14 songs on this album are covers - the second most Buffett has ever done on an album.

The song "Breathe In, Breathe out, Move On" was written for the victims of Hurricane Katrina. The songs "Party at the End of the World" and "Bama Breeze" were tour names in 2006 and 2007, respectively. The album is the first since Christmas Island in which the title track was not written or co-written by Buffett.

After a brief dalliance with contemporary country on 2004's License to Chill, Jimmy Buffett returns to his tried-and-true Caribbean pop with Take the Weather With You, and if anybody familiar with the Crowded House tune that lends its title to this thought that it would be Jimmy Buffett's move toward subtle, tasteful tunes, just doesn't know Buffett all that well. If anything, Take the Weather With You leans even more heavily on the cheerfully silly pseudo-novelties that have been his stock in trade since at least "Cheeseburger in Paradise," if not longer. Titles like "Cinco de Mayo in Memphis" and "Reggabilly Hill" are a pretty clear tip-off to that, and there's more where these came from: even such seemingly straight-ahead songs like "Elvis Presley Blues" bring the yucks, too, and this whole record has an air of frivolity that is not uncommon for Buffett, but the sheer magnitude of mirth here is a little disarming, particularly coming on the heels of such relatively recent, low-key adventures as License to Chill or Don't Stop the Carnival. Not that Buffett shies away from the big issues: he tackles the chaos that terrorism has wrought in the 21st century and he confronts the alienation of the digital world, but he does them under the guise of "Party at the End of the World" and "Everybody's on the Phone," two sunny joke-laden larks that suggests that the best thing to do is just relax and party. There's some merit to such an argument, since it's better in times of stress to ease tension than to stoke it, but in order to get with Buffett's party you have to share Buffett's attitude – in other words, if you're not already a Parrothead, Weather With You is not the album to win you over, since it is pure, unadulterated Jimmy Buffett, containing everything his fans love about him and everything his detractors hate. There are plenty of things that will grate on the those who have little patience for Buffett's easy-rolling music and corny jokes – performances so laid-back they verge on lazy, puns and obvious quips are abundant – but these are the things that appeal to his fans, and these traits are heard at their peak on Take the Weather With You. There are plenty of songs that are directly pitched to Buffett's longtime fans – songs about turning into grandparents, songs about watching college football on the weekend, songs about how things are so different now than they were back then – and they're not just delivered with casual charm, they're catchy and well-written too, so it's not just a strong album by Buffett's standards, but one of his better latter-day efforts. Apart from the title track, there is nothing unexpected here – and that's unexpected not only because it's a left-field choice for Buffett, but because it's performed with a grace and subtlety the song deserves – but after a contemporary country album, that's exactly what his fans want, and they're bound to be pleased by Take the Weather With You, which captures Jimmy Buffett in his full beach bum glory. Buffet Hotel is the 28th studio album by American singer-songwriter Jimmy Buffett. On October 27, 2009, it was officially posted on the Margaritaville homepage as well on the Mailboat Records homepage. It is the follow-up to Take the Weather with You.

While making the album, Buffett employed techniques from earlier albums, such as recording later at night after surfing; this resulted in a more laid-back feel. The name of the album comes from a building in Bamako, Mali, which Buffett visited during the Festival au Désert. The album includes "Surfing In a Hurricane," the first surf rock song Buffett has ever written.

Since Jimmy Buffett never leaves his comfort zone, it’s hard to call 2009’s Buffet Hotel a return to roots but, in a way, it is. Discounting the mock rap on “Turn Up the Heat and Chill the Rosé,” this album doesn’t even have the lingering country and reggae flavors that seasoned 2006’s Take the Weather with You, with all of the songs riding a cool, mellow country-rock wave, the kind that has been his stock-in-trade since the ‘70s. There’s a difference between being part of a tradition and being stuck in the past and Buffett is surely in the former, not shying away from the new millennial mess, admitting that we all have “A Lot to Drink About” and never flinching from his advancing years, most movingly on a cover of Bruce Cockburn’s “Life’s Short Call Now.” Cockburn’s song is paired with another expertly chosen cover, Jesse Winchester’s “Rhumba Man” (he covered Winchester’s “Nothin’ But a Breeze” the album before), but this has the highest percentage of original Buffett compositions since 1999’s Beach House on the Moon, which is a good indication that Jimmy is in good form. While a handful are collaborations with his longtime colleague Mac McAnally, many of these are co-written with Will Kimbrough, who helps liven up Buffett and sharpen his pen, resulting in one of Jimmy’s strongest albums in recent memory. Encores is a live album by American popular music singer-songwriter Jimmy Buffett. 22 songs compiled from Buffett's intimate second encores, that he ends his concerts with, are featured on the album. All songs are taken from the 2008/2009 tours. Unlike other live albums by Buffett, encores features few standards and Songs You Know by Heart tunes, which some die hard Parrotheads don't wish to hear on live Buffett albums and which some call Songs You Play to Death.

The album was recorded during the 2008 "Year of Still Here Tour," with the exception of "He Went To Paris" and "A Pirate Looks at Forty," which were recorded in 2009 in Paris and Waikiki, respectively.

The encore, that curious coda to a concert, generally finds a performer briefly back on-stage after having played the songs the audience came to hear in the show proper; sometimes there's one more old favorite to bring out, or a cover of a song by a related artist, or some oddity, all to quiet the audience members and send them out to the parking lot with one last smile. Jimmy Buffett, an aggressive showman, hit upon the idea of playing a variety of different final songs during his tours of 2008 and 2009, then gathering them together on a two-disc set for release on his Mailboat Records label. He begins Encores with one of his old favorites, "Come Monday," and ends it with another, "A Pirate Looks at Forty," but in between, often performing alone with an acoustic guitar, he pulls out obscure songs of his own and some by the peers whose work he favors, including John Prine and Jesse Winchester. The songs are ballads, many of them reflective or even melancholy, which can run counter to the performer's own mood. Buffett is a cheerleader, always aware of what city he's in and ready to throw in a local reference, always leaning heavily on his party-hearty persona. That means, for example, that when he hauls out "Trying to Reason with Hurricane Season," he finds himself singing its downcast lyrics only to shout asides about how he doesn't really mean them, to the point that he finally confesses he must have had a hangover when he wrote the song. On the other hand, he occasionally hits on a tune that perfectly expresses the warm mood at the end of the show, such as "Lovely Cruise." There are special, one-time gems, notably a version of "Do You Know What It Means to Miss New Orleans," performed with Allen Toussaint at JazzFest in New Orleans, and one of Bob Dylan's "Blowin' in the Wind" at the Newport Folk Festival. The album is at its best with such surprises, and it's encouraging that Buffett seems to have recognized that, if he's going to keep pumping out live albums, he's going to have to play some different songs and try some different approaches. Songs from St. Somewhere is the 29th studio album by American singer-songwriter Jimmy Buffett. The album debuted at number 4 on the Billboard 200 chart, with first-week sales of 60,388 copies in the United States.

Jimmy Buffett's 31st album is full of chill evocations of island life, from "Einstein Was a Surfer" to "Somethin' 'Bout a Boat." His music is an island, too – a place apart where country, old-guy rock, jokey storytelling and Caribbean rhythms lap into one another. Buffett clearly has Wi-Fi on his boat ("Useless But Important Information" takes a shot at Twitter, and "I'm No Russian" references persecuted punks Pussy Riot). But he's most likable drifting away from the real world, as on "Too Drunk to Karaoke," a duet with Toby Keith, and "Tides," an ode to his own flip-flops-rocking leisure that could make a landlubber jealous.
