Pierre-Laurent Aimard makes his debut on Deutsche Grammophon with his first ever recording of music by Johann Sebastian Bach. The release is dedicated to Bach's mystical cycle The Art of Fugue, the composer’s unfinished masterpiece that continues to raise so many questions to its interpreters up to the present day.

"I’d always been determined to explore Bach’s music more intensively at some point in my life, and the Art of Fugue is a composition that has haunted me for a long time. My new partnership with Deutsche Grammophon served as a trigger for the realization of this old dream.

For a long time, the Art of Fugue was taken to be the height of abstraction, an untouchable object of speculation that only a few specialists were capable of deciphering… But in reality this masterpiece of masterpieces is incredibly vital and made for playing, each movement constituting a world unto itself, with its own invention, style and order."
