Three Tales is a video-opera in three acts (titled Hindenburg, Bikini and Dolly) with music by American composer Steve Reich and visuals by Beryl Korot, his wife. It is scored for two sopranos, three tenors, string quartet, percussion, keyboards, and pre-recorded audio. Its premiere was at the Vienna Festival on May 12, 2002; the BBC had commissioned a version for television broadcast four months later. The 12-minute tale Hindenburg had been written (and recorded) in 1998, while the remaining tales were completed (and recorded) in the year of the premiere.

Steve Reich - Different Trains, Triple Quartet, The Four Sections (2004)
Orchestre National de Lyon, conducted by David Robertson

EAC | FLAC | Image (Cue&Log) ~ 366 Mb (incl 5%) | Mp3 (CBR320) ~ 201 Mb (incl 5%) | Scans included
Genre: Modern Classical, Minimalism | Label: Naïve | # MO 782167 | Time: 01:05:01

In Naïve's Reich: Different Trains -- Triple Quartet -- The Four Sections the orchestral music of American composer Steve Reich is performed by the Orchestre National de Lyon under conductor David Robertson. The first two works are new to the orchestral format; in the case of Different Trains, Reich's string quartet and tape original is expanded to a rank of 48 strings, and the Triple Quartet is performed in its third original performance option of three groups of 12 musicians. The Four Sections, of course, is an orchestral work to begin with, but the arrangement of Different Trains dates only from 2001 and the Triple Quartet from 1999, so in a sense these works are newly minted.

Prokofiev - Cinderella (Anna Tsygankova, Matthew Golding) (2012) [BluRay-rip]

Christopher Wheeldon's acclaimed new Cinderella for the Dutch National Ballet is an imaginative interpretation of a much loved classic. Inspired by the original Brothers Grimm fairy tale, Wheeldon gives the characters renewed depth and complexity, complementing Prokofiev's celebrated and colourful score. With sets and costumes by the renowned designer Julian Crouch, supported by stunning stage effects, this world premiere production is a truly magical experience, bringing an age-old fairy tale into the 21st century.

Gloria Cheng-Cochran - Piano music of John Adams and Terry Riley (1998)
EAC | FLAC | Image (Cue&Log) ~ 224 Mb (incl 5%) | Mp3 (CBR320) ~ 193 Mb (incl 5%) | Scans included
Genre: Classical, Minimalism | Label: Telarc | # CD-80513 | Time: 01:08:09

The multifarious pulsings of Adams's Phrygian Gates (all 26 minutes of it) are more palatable here than on some rival versions, and the relatively brief China Gates (just five minutes) are well worth visiting. Terry Riley's pieces are more varied in colour and rhythm, less obviously 'minimalist', than you might have expected, with the worlds of jazz remaining well within earshot. Gloria Cheng-Cochran seems fully absorbed in the tasks to hand, and the sound is superb. California-based pianist Gloria Cheng has become a favoured collaborator with some of the most demanding of today's composer/conductors, including Pierre Boulez, Essa-Pekka Salonen and Oliver Knussen, for her renditions of thorny 20th century scores.

)Pergolesi - Lo frate 'nnamorato (Fabio Biondi, Europa Galante (2011) [BluRay-rip]
Classical | BluRay-rip | AVC | MKV 1920x1080 (16:9) / 6215 kbps / 29,970 fps | 159 min | 8,63GB
Audio: Italian / DTS / 6ch / 48.0 KHz / 24 bits
Sub: Italiano, English, Francais, Deutsch, Espanol, Japanese, Korean

Pergolesi’s comic opera Lo frate ’nnamorato (The Brother in Love) from 1732 was his ticket to the Royal Chapel in Naples. Its huge success was due to the beautiful score, showing Pergolesi’s talent for opera compositions, and the exquisite Libretto by Gennarantonio Federico. Lo frate ‘nnamorato especially owes its wit and exuberance to the comic resources of improvisational theatre, which is refl ected in the narrative structure and relationships between the dramatis personae. Love triangles, marriage plans that come to nothing, intrigues and more lead the opera along to the unsuspected outcome.

Hagen Quartett - Mozart Quintet for Clarinet and Strings, Beethoven String Quartet No. 16 (2009) DVD9
DVD9 | VIDEO_TS | NTSC | 16:9 | 720x480 | 29,970 fps 5225 kbps | Artworks | 72 min | 4.58 Gb
Audio 1: AC3 6 ch @ 448 Kbps | Audio 2: DTS 6 ch 754 kbps | Audio 3: PCM 2 ch 1536 kbps

Writing in 29:4 about the Hagen’s fine CD accounts of Beethoven Quartets Nos. 12 and 15, I noted two salient features of its approach: a sonority that in its freedom from lushness and excessive vibrato echoes (without duplicating) “period” sonority; and a style suggestive of how the music is far closer to the composer’s middle period than we often think. In a similar vein, this is a tough, aggressive No. 16, yet one tempered by delicacy where apt and projected with sensitivity to the music’s pointed humor—a performance style that one probably was not likely to encounter 50 years ago. And fine though the Beethoven is, the Mozart may be even better, as commanding and sensitive account of the work as I have ever heard. For one thing, Sabine Meyer is superb, a true virtuoso who is capable of rendering the music’s gentler moments with a tender delicacy that is as arresting as her rapidly articulated runs in which every note is given its clearly articulated due.

Label/Cat#: Deutsche Grammophon "Original Masters" # 00289 477 5838 | Country/Year: Germany 2006
Genre: Classical | Style: Various

"The set also includes two magnificent Kubelík recordings from the 1960s with Bavarian Radio forces. Schoenberg's Gurrelieder (with tenor Herbert Schachtschneider as a vocally heroic Waldemar) is superbly played and sung, and Kubelík's conducting is as dramatically involving as any. It sounds better than ever in this latest mastering. Finally, there is utter enchantment: the 1964 recording of Mendelssohn's music for "A Midsummer Night's Dream" (with Edith Mathis and Ursula Boese as soloists), prefaced by a fascinating rehearsal of the Overture, released here for the first time. The booklet includes excellent notes and photographs" ~International Record Review

Hérold - La fille mal gardée (Marianela Nuñez, Carlos Acosta) (2009) [BluRay-rip]
Classical | BluRay-rip | AVC | MKV 1920x1080 (16:9) / 6215 kbps / 29,970 fps | 108 min | 9,88GB
Audio: DTS / 6ch / 48.0 KHz / 24 bits

Ever since it’s triumphant premiere in January 1960, Frederick Ashton's La fille mal gardée has been esteemed as one of his happiest creations. This is a charming piece, elegantly performed, a village love affair set in the idyllic Constable landscape of Ashton's imagination. Marianela Nuñez and Carlos Acosta would be show-stoppers in almost any suitable role, but as Lise and Colas they are superb. William Tuckett and Jonathan Howells, in the comic roles of Simone and Alain respectively, are every bit as arresting, both displaying a certain genius for knockabout.

Brabbins - Pickard: The Flight Of Icarus (2008)
EAC Rip | Flac (Image + cue + log) | 1 CD | Full Scans | 268 MB
Genre: Classical | Label: Bis | Catalog Number: 1578

British composer John Pickard has been widely praised for his architectural sense and bold handling of an extended tonal idiom. He is best known for a series of powerful orchestral works, of which The Flight of Icarus has met with particular acclaim. After its première at the PROMS The Times critic wrote: “Pickard's score remains airborne over its 20-minute span rather more proficiently than Icarus, leading the ear and imagination with impressive resourcefulness.”

Lloyd-Jones / Bliss: Meditations On A Theme By John Blow, Metamorphic Variations (2010)
EAC Rip | Flac (Image + cue + log) | 1 CD | Full Scans | 267 MB
Genre: Classical | Label: Naxos | Catalog Number: 8572316

Scored for a large orchestra, including an extensive percussion section, Sir Arthur Bliss’s Metamorphic Variations dates from the end of his creative life. Inspired by the triptych Tantris painted by Bliss’s long-time friend, the late George Dannatt, it is a work of extremes, of enormous power, passion and violence balanced by gentleness, whimsy and delicacy.

Donizetti - L'Elisir d'Amore (Pablo Heras-Casado, Miah Persson, Rolando Villazón) (2012) [BluRay-rip]
Classical | BluRay-rip | AVC | MKV 1920x1080 (16:9) / 6215 kbps / 29,970 fps | 135 min | 7,36GB
Audio: Italian / DTS / 6ch / 48.0 KHz / 24 bits
Sub: Italian, English, French, German, Spanish, Chinese, Korean

This marks Rolando Villazón’s directorial debut in a dual-role: stage director and star singer (main role Nemorino) at the same time, and it is a clear WINNER. Inspired by the cartoon character Lucky Luke and the Spaghetti Western-tradition, the tenor’s staging for the Baden-Baden Festspielhaus is not only a film studio in the thirties but also a Western at the same time. Lead by the dynamic young conductor Pablo Heras-Casado, who “…conducts very singer friendly” (Online Musik Magazine). Extraordinary visual production, and one of the most memorable European operatic events of 2012.

Glassworlds Vol. 1 (2015)
EAC Rip | Flac (Image + cue + log) | 1 CD | Full Scans | 290 MB
Genre: Classical | Label: Grand Piano | Catalog Number: 677

Philip Glass has made an immense and stylistically wide-ranging contribution to piano repertoire. The Orphée Suite, a transcription of excerpts from the first opera in Glass’ Cocteau Trilogy, is one of his most distinctive piano pieces, blending virtuosity and melodic richness. In contrast, the hypnotic How Now is structurally influenced by Indian ragas and gamelan music, whilst Dreaming Awake contains one of the most powerful climaxes in all Glass’ works. Performed by Nicolas Horvath, a Scriabin Competition first prize winner, this is the first release in the complete Glass solo piano edition which will include many premières.
