Within the realm of cosmic coincidences, it really isn't particularly earth-shattering. But still there is a certain irony to be gleaned from the fact that Syd Barren left this planet in July 2006, more or less exactly twelve months shy of a celebration that would have otherwise seen him thrust into a brighter spotlight than he'd cared to visit for decades.
2007, as countless retrospectives made certain to remind us, marked the 40th anniversary of the Summer of Love, that short but so shimmering few months when rock'n'roll music seemed to have effortlessly accomplished a task that mankind had been seeking for millennia — universal peace and love. And Syd Barrett, at the helm of the band he'd formed two years earlier, was the movement's most beloved spokesman. No mailer that he'd remained silent ever since then. 2001 would see the spirit of Syd… the painter, the piper, the seer of visions… invoked more than ever it had been in the past.

Pink Box is the sound of that hunger, the depth of that devotion, the soul of that constancy. It is a portrait of magic; not in the cheap, devalued sense that is today sold with a Hogwarts badge and a Charmed brand logo, but in its truest, deepest sense, the power to move men and their minds, to force thought into synapses where there existed mere instinct; to raise consciousness where, once, only cauliflowers grew.
