Label: First Word | Released: 1 Sep 2007

Heavy grooves from the Haggis Horns - a combo who may well have you rethinking your opinion of Scottish cuisine! The group have a classically funky sound that reminds us of the first overseas acts who first caught our ears many years back - an appreciation of American funk from the 60s and the 70s, played here with a no-nonsense, stripped down approach! As you'd guess from the name, the group's got a bit of horns – trumpet, trombone, alto, tenor, baritone, and flute to be exact – but they've also got an even better bottom groove that comes from great use of Fender Rhodes, farfisa, and clavinet - and a fair bit of added percussion next to the drums. The rhythms are almost more 70s soundtrack funk than straight funky 45 grooving - a fact that's emphasized by their reworking of "Enter The Dragon" as their own "Enter The Haggis". Other tracks include "Pipe Bag", "Hot Damn", "The Traveller (part 1)", "The Bump", and "Got To Lose Your Way".
