Billy Eckstine - The celebrated vocalist and band leader Billy Eckstine was one of the most important musical figures of the 1940's. His rich baritone and unique vibrato stylings pioneered the way for black male singers and bandleaders for generations to come. He was an instrumental figure in the evolution of bebop, and a driving element in the development of soul and R&B. His influence can be heard all the way from the veteran icons Nat King Cole and Ray Charles to the modern day giants Prince and Michael Jackson.
