Patricia Kopatchinskaja, The Saint Paul Chamber Orchestra - Schubert: Death and the Maiden (2016)

With the US set Saint Paul Chamber Orchestra, the Moldovan violinist Patricia Kopatchinskaja - who still lives interpretation as a recreation - staged in this program his own musical meditation on death. Allusions mostly in the medieval dance of death, pieces by Dowland, Nörmiger, Gesualdo, Schubert and Kurtág serve as interludes between the movements of Schubert quartet heard here in the proper arrangement for orchestra violinist. Despite the diversity of origin and style of these pages, the musicians were able to make a coherent whole that is not without value. As for the Quartet "Girl and Death", here's a new vision where the theatricality and contrasts accused to better express the feelings of fear, anger, desire and despair prevail over the Schubert writing at times when the -ci only subtlety, magic and transparency. Force Does the line? Discerned as we want, but we will in any case to remove Patricia Kopatchinskaja commitment, intensity and inventiveness.
