Label: Unknown Pleasures | Release Year: 2016

When you speak about Cold Wave, it’s impossible not to mention the name Norma Loy. The legendary two piece released a number of style defining albums and EPs in the 80s the ongoing popularity of songs like Lesbische Voodoo Teenager, Romance or Power of Spirit says a thing or two about their impact. Blending Minimal Synth, Post Punk, New Wave and influences of Industrial Music, their sound brew is still distinctive, despite the long period silence of coherent releases.

Usher especially was productive in the meantime, nevertheless. Most recently with Black Egg, he’s always been very comfortable with the idea of collaborating with an ever-changing set of musicians Die Puppe, DZ Lectric and Anthon Shield, Adan & Ilse are well known non-Norma Loy creative playgrounds, but as good as especially Black Egg is, Norma Loy overshadowed everything.

The announcenent of Baphomet caused some euphoria, and the first sounds bits available promised a dark and dense album, and when I first heard the title track Baphomet Sunrise, it felt like a real comeback, a favorite act finding back on track not that Un/Real was bad in any way, but Baphomet certainly exceeds the album easily.
