Miranda Sex Garden was a band from London, England. Formed in 1990, when the members were studying vocal music at the Purcell School of music together and started singing 17th Century madrigals for money in the streets of London.. Over the years, their sound became increasingly dark and sophisticated. Around the time of this album, they said they wanted to create music that evoked a "seductive garden of earthly delights, full of color and chaos.Personal note: Someone likened Fairytales of Slavery to Enya meeting Skinny Puppy and while that might indeed be a simplification, this is much more accessible than SP, but probably not an album you can just put in your player and leave as a background. This requires a little bit of efort, but the listener will be the richer for the experience.
Fairytales of Slavery is the penultimate release by Miranda Sex Garden, issued on Mute Records in June 1994. Produced in part by Alexander Hacke of Einstürzende Neubauten, the album blends a great number of elements of different genres, including but not limited to gothic rock, darkwave, industrial, classical and ambient.
