This pianist may not be familiar to everyone, and until I attended one of his concerts in London some years ago Novacek was previously also unknown to me. What I had enjoyed, was his subtly nuanced culture of his touch, his sense for sound, and all his affectionate but decent efforts to make music become language. Althought I myself prefer, in the same way, Alfred Brendel, whose playing of these pieces may lead to a similar interpretation, I especially value the slower tempos choosen by Novacek, which will breathe a more detailed view into the, evidently, "real" emotions of the composer at the time of his stays in Switzerland with Marie d'Agoult in the 1830s. The first book of the years of pilgrimage has finally been revised/recomposed just about 15 years after the first release of most of the later works within the 'Album d'un voyageur'. You may also be pleased about the well-tuned instrument, its colourful, sweet tone, and the excellent acoustic of the Potton Hall.
