Koresh - Crippledriver (2010)

You may all be familiar with the name Koresh. David Koresh (born Vernon Wayne Howell) was a maniacal religious zealot who rose to prominence in the Branch Davidian sect at Waco in Texas. He proclaimed himself the son of God (and who are we to argue?), had a fondness for fucking underage teens and had his final showdown in a stand off with the police that lasted 51 days and resulted in a fire that killed Koresh and 75 of his followers including 21 children. Koresh the band, hailing from London, are a bunch of sweaty deviants with a fondness for excessive alcohol consumption, partial male nudity and a mind bending collision of punk, metal and sludge. So far I have no proof that they f@ck underage girls and they have never killed anyone though guitarist Rich does have a minor messiah complex. This debut album by the band isn’t a pretty affair. Things start off badly enough with the My Little Porno Pony front cover and the back cover depicting a mutilated cat vomiting into its own food bowl. These people should probably never be allowed near children!!! Slip this little sucker into a CD player and it’s clear that the wrong doing doesn’t stop at the artwork. The morass of filth these guys spew up over the course of the 9 tracks here is as disturbing as it is thrilling. It’s not big and it definitely isn’t clever but it is frankly fucking marvellous!!! Koresh have already proved that their live experience is beyond compare and now they’ve proved that, on record, they’re more than just a bunch of noisy drunken arseholes that like to make a racket. They’re a bunch of noisy drunken arseholes that like to make a racket but can actually pen a decent tune and play their gear!!! I suggest that, much like the band likes to observe the six pint rule before playing, you all get hold of this and observe the six pint rule before listening…then break every item of furniture in your house before wanking yourself into violent oblivion over the artwork. You’ll regret it in the morning but for that moment it’ll be the best half an hour of your life!!! Just think, if Vernon Wayne Howell had never changed his name, Koresh may not exist now!
