This excellent album was released in 1972 on Atlantic Records and was the one and only release from a fusion band from Philadelphia. Mainly instrumental (with some vocal accents) Good God's record contains tightly arranged and very original dose of energeticjazz rock with some progressive and even hard rock influences. The songs showed the instrumental virtuosity and imaginative approach with strong guitar parts leading the way. The group did a fantastic job on Frank Zappa's ‘King Kong’ and John McLaughlin's ‘Dragon Song’, although other four compositions were no less memorable. Most probably it was the greatest 'forgotten' progressive-fussion album ever! Unfortunately, the band sunk without a trace.

Very underrated jazz-rock/prog album from the USA. Even though this has a full brass section, it has way more in common with the Soft Machine 3rd-5 era than it does Chicago, Blood Sweat and Tears, or any of the other bands that could be considered "brassrock". Great stuff with a lot of really wild sax soloing, and superb all-around musicianship. Not for the faint of heart.
Extremely well played and well produced Jazz Fusion. It’s a covers album essentially, of songs by Zappa, John McLaughlin and Larry Carderelli. However, the two tracks written by guitarist Cotton Kent, are fantastic, showing real depth to this group. The rhythm section is amazing. Hank and John Ransome make a wonderful team. Usually, not worth mentioning except that in this case , there really is some kind of magic happening here. This album comes highly recommended and is a highly overlooked. For fans of early 70’s Fusion.

Forgotten Philly Fusion Treasure.
"Good God", the eponymous 1st (and only) LP from the long since defunct Philadelphia band, is a very cool record. Zeno Sparkles (Larry Cardarelli) was a very tasty guitarist who was augmented by keyboardist and occasional sax player and vocalist Cotton Kent, and the Ransom brothers rhythm section of John on bass and Hank on drums. They did what I think is the definitive recorded version of Frank Zappa's "King Kong" and the remaining tracks are original compositions that straddle rock and fusion. They took their name from a direct response by Captain Beefheart to the question "Can you suggest a name for the band?" during a telephone conversation between Mr. Van Vliet and manager Bill Eib. I had the opportunity to see them open for Beefheart at the Tower Theatre in Upper Darby, PA, which is still an active concert venue, @ 1973 and for Weather Report at Irvine Auditorium on the U of P campus the same year, to give you an idea of the company they kept. As I understand it, they had the material for a second LP on tape in the can, but minimal sales of the debut precluded it's release. I saw them perform many times in a variety of smaller venues in the Philly area between 1970 & 1973 and they were a consistently entertaining and evolving band. My brother actually took guitar lessons from Cardarelli for a period of time in the early '70s and I occasionally worked for the band as a roadie during that time. It is a shame they didn't have more commercial success because I always thought they had a lot of original things to say musically.
