Since 1996, François Raulin and Stephan Oliva have formed one of the only French piano-jazz duets. For their fifth creation, they will correspond freely with the major personalities who have punctuated their musical path. In the form of a "letter to … a letter from …" to "and" post-scriptum ", these pieces for two pianos, written or improvised, will be addressed to expensive characters and will play virtually with them. Lennie Tristano, Paul Motian, Martial Solal, Anish Kapoor to Madame Bovary, Linda Sharrock, Hermeto Pascoal, Duke Ellington to Igor Stravinsky, Henry Dutilleux, Randy Weston, Ligeti to Lewis Carroll, Conlon Nancarrow, Jimmy Giuffre … Of all time was the typewriter of the composer and his diary. When we play in concert we have a permanent and often unconscious mental dialogue between the instrument, the place where we play, the music being created or improvised, the sound images left by our past artistic encounters, our listening Concerts, discs, our readings, our emotions as a child, then as adults … In this continuous flow, are also our inspiring "figures". We try through this recording to enter into a more intimate and personal relationship with them, by addressing these imaginary letters. These personalities interest us by their games but also by their journey, and invite us to dig the paths, sometimes ancient, that they surveyed before us. The multiple roots of an abundant and free music. In this game of mirror of the two pianos face to face, our visions, our images, and our musical graphology are reflected.
