Christian Rich - FW14 (2015)

Chicago-born twins Taiwo and Kehinde Hassan have already contributed to some of the year's biggest albums. The pair worked on Drake’s 'Nothing Was The Same', J. Coles' 'Born Sinner', Earl Sweatshirt’s 'Doris' and Childish Gambino’s 'Because The Internet' before producing Vince Staples' single 'Señorita'.

In between all this, though, the duo have been working on their own material under the name Christian Rich. Something quite different, the Lucky Number signed project is fixated on retro-futurist sounds. Influenced by the novels of Philip K Dick and the enormously successful film Interstellar, the music is a stunning conceptual blend of Nigerian Fugi Music, bossa nova and electronics.

Production, recording, and DJ team Christian Rich consists of twin brothers Taiwo and Kehinde Hassan. Born in Chicago, raised in Lagos, and based in Los Angeles, the Hassans made small but significant moves from 2003 through 2012 — a period in which they collaborated with Lil' Kim, Clipse, Foxy Brown, Armand Van Helden, mentors N.E.R.D., and Rye Rye. They also released tracks of their own, including the part-dubstep, part-trap, part-pop "All You Need" and "Back Room." The duo's first big year was 2013. Four of that year's Top Ten albums — J. Cole's Born Sinner, Earl Sweatshirt's Doris, Drake's Nothing Was the Same, and Childish Gambino's Because the Internet — featured the duo's work. Another Christian Rich single, the dreamily off-center "In Between," as well as the EP SS14, came in 2014. The album FW14 followed a year later and featured a guest appearance from funk legend Steve Arrington.
