Brian Breedlove - Certain Kind of Man (2016)

Various types of music highlight various types of talent. People who appreciate a good melody along with interesting, and sometimes understated lyrics will likely enjoy this original collection by Brian Breedlove. These songs came from the heart, which partially explains why they're so believable. They express hope, love, happiness, reflection, and yes, sorrow. Breedlove recognizes there can be a special connection with people through sad songs, since millions have experienced sadness. While some of his songs in that category are meant to convey exactly that, he has included others that don't take themselves too seriously. I think you'll enjoy noticing Breedlove's use of juxtaposition, both lyrically and melodically, at times almost belying the message of some of those darker tunes. In so doing he also provides variety within the same kind of song, sometimes incorporating a near brush with humor to lighten the mood, (as in "Tricky Road") thereby making the album, as a whole, more 'listenable'. I also appreciate his saving the 'reason' in "Reason Why" 'til the end. It's just more fun that way. Many artists and experiences have influenced Breedlove's songwriting. While, on occasion, his music or style may remind you of other artists you've enjoyed, you'll find Brian's music to be uniquely his own. I'm certain you'll enjoy the complexity, yet simple straightforwardness, and heartfelt passion of this "Certain Kind of Man".
