Released nearly 25 years after Bert Jansch and John Renbourn's 1966 debut as a duo, BERT AND JOHN, AFTER THE DANCE takes its title from one of that album's best-loved songs. AFTER THE DANCE shows the two British guitarists (who had formed the legendary folk group The Pentangle in the interim) at the peak of their immense instrumental and interpretive skills.
Performing mostly with Jansch on acoustic guitar and Renbourn on electric, both playing in the traditional finger-picking style, the two spin dizzyingly complex webs of sound, soloing in counterpoint and playing in unison, sounding exactly like two close friends who have been playing together for decades. Highlights include the playful "Tic-Tocative" and a magnificent rendition of Charles Mingus' "Goodbye Pork Pie Hat," brilliantly recasting the jazz standard as a folk-style tour de force.
