Garde-fou is an invitation to spend a tête-à-tête with a waking dreamer, a long-lost friend, a timeless confidant. The rhythm is often upbeat, the melodies sunny and the voice soft and encompassing, but behind this light, this particular timbre, lies the chaos of a difficult world, prone to fires, unstable and implacable. We, who are like children, impatient and reckless, need a clear, protective word, so Barbagallo reinvents himself as a gentle balladeer, a precise poet of emotion. He sees time passing, the wear and tear of the beautiful and the best, but wants to save, consecrate love and continue the quest for the truth that remains unreadable. It's not a battle lost in advance, it's life, he keeps telling us.
"I would lie down in the simple life and in the great truths". Garde-fou is a program: behind all his ascents, his dizziness, his emotions and his telluric forces, there's a man seeking clarity in the world around him, through the light of a mute God or that of a child's gaze. Knowing that this quest, necessarily chivalrous, will lead him into the dangers of visible and invisible forces, he protects himself and others, the people he takes under his wing, his pen, his musical notes and percussion, making himself the guardrail of the dreamer he once was. It's a journey-record, initiatory and marvelous, in search of a new truth and goodness for this world, a record to which we, in turn, can simply say thank you."
