This concert, recorded in April 2007 at the Teatro Valli, in Reggio Emilia (Italy), brings together young musicians of the "Orchestra Mozart" and excellent soloists of international repute, under the direction of Claudio Abbado.

They interpret the first three of the six Bach "Concerts avec plusieurs instruments (Concertos with several instruments)", that were dedicated to the Margrave (military leader of a border province) Christian Ludwig of Brandenburg in 1721, thus taking the name of Brandeburg Concertos.

The original manuscript was probably not played at the court of the Margrave. Bach himself was aware that these works were not going to be played in that circumstance, both for the lack of court staff and for the particular difficulty of the score: he intended to give the performers a "sample" of high level stylistic virtuosity. It was only in 1850 that the Concertos were rediscovered and published by Peters, and have since come to be recognized as the most beautiful and famous pages of the whole Baroque period.
