The 2016 Billboard Music Awards is a music award ceremony that was held on May 22, 2016, at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada, the first nationally televised event to originate from that venue. It aired live on ABC with hosts Ludacris and Ciara.
The nominees were announced on April 11, 2016, with The Weeknd earning the most nominations with twenty. Britney Spears received the Billboard Millennium Award. Celine Dion received the Billboard Icon Award in recognition of her career spanning over three decades. Madonna made an appearance to pay tribute to Prince. Adele premiered the music video for her single "Send My Love (To Your New Lover)" at the ceremony. The Weeknd won the most awards on the night with eight, followed by Adele with five, who won Top Artist.

The ladies were living in that wind, busting out killer choreography, delivering flawless vocals and wearing gorgeous sequin outfits. And honestly, we were living for it. The group turned up the heat with dancers and a full band, making for a truly next level performance.

Justin Bieber took the stage for a show-stopping, colorful performance of a medley of his latest single “Company” and his No. 1 hit “Sorry” at the 2016 Billboard Music Awards.
Justin transformed the stage into an awe-inspiring box of light and color. He started the performance with a legion of dancers behind a scrim. The scrim slowly rose up, as Justin as his dancers moved centerstage, transitioning from “Company” into “Sorry.”
While Justin didn’t make it rain during “Sorry” like he does on the Purpose World Tour, rain was displayed on screens spanning the stage as the singer busted out his signature choreography. Lasers made the performance even more epic.

Sporting a new haircut and plenty of black leather, Pink dazzled the crowd Sunday night (May 22) at the 2016 Billboard Music Awards with "Just Like Fire."
The pop star opened by swinging high above the crowd on a gilded harness before dismounting to navigate a catwalk flanked by crimson-clad dancers.
She crawled across the front of the stage to clasp hands with fans against the looming backdrop of a clock bedecked with Roman numerals, then finished off the number suspended in mid-air while flames danced behind her.

Facing each other, the pair sang their romantic tune, wrapping things up with a chaste hug.

Before we get into the singing, can we talk about her Magenta Carpet look for a second? She rocked a two-piece purple pants suite, and it was everything.
The tie, the shoes, and the wavy blonde locks. She slayed!
Now back to the performance. The singer went un-plugged on the satellite stage in the middle of the audience with a cover of Bob Dylan’s “It Ain’t Me Babe.”
Joining Kesha on stage was singer/songwriter Ben Folds and a single violin. Kesha credits Ben Folds as an influence on her music and says that he helped get her “through high school.”

Celine Dion brought down the house at the Billboard Music Awards with a moving performance of “The Show Must Go On.”
Letting everyone know why she’s the Queen of Vegas, she stepped out on the front of the stage in a beautiful gold gown. Can you say power stance??
The vocals, the hair, the chills all over my body, this performance was not of this planet, not even of this universe really, what’s the word…otherworldly?
Celine was joined on stage by violinist, Lindsey Stirling who brought the performance to another level, if that’s even possible because it was already on like level 1000.
After the performance ended she was surprised by her son, René-Charles presenting her with the Billboard Icon Award. Celine gave a heartfelt speech while holding her sons hand and was met with a standing ovation.

Groundbreaking band The Go-Go's brought their 1980 classic "We Got the Beat" to the 2016 Billboard Music Awards stage on Sunday (May 22) night. Preceded by a clip of the band's debut performance on American Bandstand, the group gave the awards a little throwback flair with the feel good New Wave hit.
Ahead of the band's farewell tour this summer, they rocked out in front of an appropriately "I Want My MTV"-esque backdrop - and had the audience (including an enthusiastic Kelly Rowland) joining in.

Madonna closed out the Billboard Music Awards with a tribute to the late Prince. The performance was introduced by Quest Love with a touching tribute. The stage was lit up in purple and everyone in the audience got on their feet.
Sitting on a purple velvet throne, in an all purple, Madonna sang a powerful rendition of “Nothing Compares 2 U” (written by Prince).
Stevie Wonder then surprised the audience by joining Madonna for a cover of Prince’s “Purple Rain” wearing a purple scarf. Their vocals were inspiring and an amazing way to pay tribute to the legendary singer.
