An album of originals by Dave Alvin, accompanied by the expanded lineup that included Steve Berlin and Lee Allen on sax, this is prime-time vintage Blasters.
One of the great albums of the 80's. Phil is front and center on the LP, so dig in!
Allmusic:
Review by Denise Sullivan
An album of originals by Dave Alvin, accompanied by the expanded lineup that included Steve Berlin and Lee Allen on sax, this is prime-time vintage Blasters. Opening with the crowd-pleasing love song "Red Rose," moving through "Barefoot Rock" (no doubt inspired by Jimmy McCracklin's "Georgia Slop," later covered by Los Lobos), on to one of Alvin's finest hours of songwriting with "Long White Cadillac" (made famous by Dwight Yoakam), and winding down with "Boomtown," the Blasters are effective at retracing and reflecting the concerns of the common man and woman – a celebration of Americana, careful never to wallow in nostalgia.
Christgau is on board:
"Train whistle cries / lost on its own track" could be half a haiku for Hank Williams should these American traditionalists ever turn Japanese, and if "Leaving" is worthy of George Jones, "Bus Station" and "It Must Be Love" pick up where Tom T. Hall left off. None of which is code for countrybilly–this is r&b Jerry Lee could be proud of. It's just that Dave Alvin writes with an objective colloquial intensity that fits the straight-ahead dedication of his cross-racial and -generational band the way James Taylor's ingrown whimsy suited the laid-backs he hung with. In other words, Dave might qualify as the last great singer-songwriter if only he was a singer. And brother Phil is. A

No music was harmed in the making of this vinyl rip.
This is what I do in general. Not every step is done for all rips:
LP > Rega P1 with Ortofon Super 30 > TC-750LC > E-Mu 0202 > Adobe Audition 3 (AA) @ 96kHz 32bit float > Manual click removal in AA > Click
Repair set @ 20 > AA used to balance L/R > (for MONO: Equalizer (from the ClickRepair guy) used to combine L+R >) AA to split tracks, fade
in/out, and for manual click removal >
for 24bit: use AA to truncate the 32bit file >
for 16bit: Izoptope RX Advanced to resample the 32bit file to 44.1kHz > and then to dither to`16bit using MBIT+ >
All > Trader's Little Helper to FLAC and (for 16bit: sector align if necessary, pad) > MP3 Tagger to edit tags.
"16bit" = 16bit at 44.1kHz
"24bit" = 24bit at 96kHz
