Symphonic Rock / Progressive Rock

Described by Time Out as "Pink Floyd meets The Berlin Philharmonic" and "The Most Majestic Rock Band of All Time".
After forming in 1974, The Enid invented a brand of unique, powerful, romantic symphonic rock music. The line-up span three generations and just completed a highly acclaimed 13th studio album, INVICTA.

Formed among friends in 1974 The Enid invented a school of intelligent, powerful and romantic popular music which is unique to them. The Enid “school of art” for want of a better description, is free from constraints of template rock/pop where rhythm, harmony and melody are invariably dictated by the traditions, prejudices and limitations associated with style. The Enid were the first band to be funded entirely by their fans. This was a revolutionary concept when first deployed and led to the current situation with bands as diverse as Marillion, Radiohead and Hawkwind following this lead.

A glimpse of the history of a band once described by Tommy Vance on BBC Radio One as the “biggest cult band in Europe”.

In the 80’s The Enid got kicked off the Glastonbury CND festival when Godfrey pointed out that the then owners of EMI made parts for nuclear missiles. The band still holds the record for the most encores at Reading Festival which they have played five times. £80, 000 was donated to the band in a carrier bag by a fan in the 1980's. The band came to the attention of MI5 at the height of the Cruise Missile crises in 1984.

In 2009 - after a 10 year break - founder members Robert John Godfrey and Dave Storey put together a new band. Since then The Enid has had fantastic receptions in gigs all over the UK, in Europe and the in USA. In 2012, Joe Payne, now the youngest member, a talented vocalist aged 23, joined the band for the 13th studio album – INVICTA – which is now receiving wide acclaim including being voted into the Top Ten Guardian readers poll for best album and best track.

Thanks very much for this cd in such high quality.
A great, if somewhat "underground" band.

Cheers, Peter

The band and myself spent a year writing this album, and 3 month recording it. If you like it, pop over to our website at theenid.co.uk and buy a copy. That way we may be able to afford to make another album!
