Wie immer wieder zu beobachten ist, bedeutet es eine Menge, das zweite Album an den Start zu bringen, wenn das erste ein Megakracher war. So auch im Fall der Guano Apes. "Proud Like A God" glänzt in Deutschland mittlerweile platinfarben und auch im Rest von Europa wurde erheblich mehr erreicht, als man zu Beginn träumen konnte.

Nun steht "Don't Give Me Names" in den Regalen und ich denke, nicht nur meiner einer war gespannt wie ein Flitzebogen, wie die Apes denn 2000 klingen. Schlagzeuger Dennis hat im LAUT-Interview angekündigt, dass das die neue Platte wesentlich kompakter und in sich stimmiger klingen würde. Hmm, man hat ja so seine Erfahrung mit Ankündigungen über Neuveröffentlichungen. Meist ist das Teil dann "das beste, was wir je gemacht haben" und soweiter und bla bla bla. Glück, wenn die hohen Erwartungen in etwa erfüllt werden.

Im Falle der Göttinger Kreuzüberjünger war die Aussage "kompakt" fast schon untertrieben. Wolfgang Stach an den Reglern hat dem Sound etwas die Härte und die Aggressivität genommen und auch Sandra kreischt und brüllt nicht mehr, als ob ihr jemand an die Wäsche will. Die Frage, ob das auf Kosten der Qualität der Songs geht, muss eindeutig mit nein beantwortet werden. Ich kann auch nach dem drölfzigsten Umlauf keinen Ausfall entdecken. Angefangen beim exzellenten Opener "Innocent Greed" über die erste Ballade "Living In A Lie" bis hin zu "Anne Claire" halten alle Songs die Champions League.

Auch wenn das Crossover-Fräuleinwunder Nasic nicht mehr so deftig auf die Kacke haut, klingt ihr Organ doch um einiges facettenreicher und ausgereifter als noch auf dem Debut. Das Arbeiten mit einer Vocalcoach(euse) hat sich schon jetzt mehr als bezahlt gemacht.

Nervte bei "Proud Like A God" noch so manche Klopperei, die den an sich guten Song in viele kleine Scheiben zerhackstückelte, stehen auf "Don't Give Me Names" alle Lieder wie eine Wand da und bröckeln auch nach zwanzigmaligem Hören nicht ab. Und wenn auf den ersten Lauscher kein Ohrwurm der Marke "Open Your Eyes" vorhanden ist, macht das die Platte nur noch interessanter. Die CD soll schliesslich noch ein paar mal die volle Distanz im Player zurücklegen.

Zur Zeit ist die Band in den Staaten unterwegs. Ich möchte mal wieder ein bissel Prophet spielen und behaupten: Wenn die vier in heimische Gefilde zurückkehren, erwartet sie ein Rummel, gegen den der vor zwei Jahren ein Sturm im Wasserglas war.
