Review by Andrew Hamilton from Allmusic:
For some reason P-Vine Records subtitled this "The New Lamont Dozier Album," a misleading title since these tracks were first released on Invictus Records as by Holland & Dozier. Dozier doesn't even lead "Slipping Away" – Holland does, but the best tracks, "Why Can't We Be Lovers" and "New Breed Kinda Woman," are classic Dozier. Though he later had a few hits on ABC Records, Dozier recorded his most accessible music while at Invictus under the artistry of Holland & Dozier; Eddie Holland, strangely, never sung with the duo, despite having some acclaim as a solo artist before these '70s recordings.
Review from RateYourMusic:
For some reason this is Lamont Dozier's hardest Lp to track down on original vinyl. It's not a bad effort which sounds in places like soul funk morphing into disco.
The problem with a great deal of Lamont's albums is that many of them have a sort of sameness about them. This just means you need to listen to them a few more times to get into the music, which might be why they are not rated that highly with a lot of people. This one is no exception.
On Side 1 "Why Can't We Be Lovers" is a great romantic soul track, but side two, which flows better than side 1, is the place to start listening this LP. The last track "Slipping Away" is a nice semi-instrumental and probably the best track on the record.
