After a five-year absence, doom legends Electric Wizard have emerged once more from the fog (or weed smoke, take your pick) with Time to Die, the follow-up to 2010's Black Masses. By now, the Brits have become infamous for infusing their crushing, monolithic sludge with bleary-eyed blues, making the ten-minute plus jams on essential albums like 2000's Dopethrone the aural equivalent of finding a postcard from Blue Cheer in the middle of a tar pit. Four-minute, flash-fried acid trip "Sadiowitch" lightens up that load significantly, ambling along on a lecherous, suprisingly lithe groove that maintains the chugging momentum throughout. The nasal chants of Electric Wizard ringleader Jus Oborn bear a creepy, campy tone throughout. Enshrouded in the slack-jawed din of his fellow acolytes, he weds the carnal to the cultish and the cheeky to the chilling: hashed-out, grindhouse blues at its finest.
