This in Action book gives a very short background of the history of LRRP's that were first created in WW2. The concept was on/off again with the Army and resurfaced in Vietnam. The author was one of the scouts, the photos are from his collection, as are the experiences. This is an excellent glimpse of the life of a recon soldier. Their job is to scout and avoid fights. They went through very tough, rigourous training, few were selected. These guys were way out in front, four to six troops on patrols that lasted up to six days.
Some of the photos are small & somewhat grainy - they were taken on patrol during war, but this does not take away from the overall effectiveness of this book. There are two pages of color drawings to show the camouflage stripe uniforms worn by these scouts. There are also line drawings show some of the weapons used by the US Army and NVA.
