Mechanical systems such as vehicles, robots, space structures, biomechanical systems, mechanisms and machines can be modeled as sets of rigid bodies interconnected by joints and force elements such as springs, dampers, and actuators. The dynamic behavior of such multibody systems is described using ordinary differential equations (ODEs) or sets of differential-algebraic equations (DAEs).

This course presents systematic approaches for formulating and solving these equations using matrix, numerical, and computer methods with the goal of predicting the motion of relatively realistic models of mechanical systems. Applications are explored using modeling and simulation projects.
