I really like having smart heroines. There's just something about a brainy/geeky girl that resonates with me. Plus it helps to see her being appreciated for her mind as well as her body. I really liked Layla and I liked how she had a good head on her shoulders, for the most part, Her decision to give into her attraction for Phin seemed a little hasty, but not really out of character.

I'm skeptical when it comes to falling in love with someone in short amount of time. Granted there are circumstances where it can happen and it can be believable. I think Phin and Layla were great together. They had a different backgrounds but I love how they meshed together. I was hoping for more in depth background into why control was so important for Layla.

This book flew by fairly quickly. It seemed like it was over before it began, even though everything was somewhat resolved. This is the first book in a trilogy about friends and I'm hoping to get more questions answered as the series continues. If not, I'm just hoping to seeing Phin and Layla doing well. Shannyn Schroeder has great potential and I look forward to seeing what she does.
