Mr Irving published the first full length account of Hitler's atomic bomb programme; he spoke with Heisenberg, Weizsacker and the other atomic scientists engaged on the project, and was first to research the German atomic files captured by the ALSOS mission. It was serialised for several weeks in Der Spiegel. The American edition – Simon & Schuster – was called The German Atomic Bomb.
