Reviews:
I liked the video. I've had a lathe for 35 years, but most of what I know came from watching others 35 years ago, or trying things. The video showed me things I didn't know.

Excellent presentation of basic lathe operation. This is probably best for beginners like me but is unlikely to be of much use to experienced lathe operators.

Good overview of basic lathe operations. Worth renting and watching…but I'd be real upset if I paid "list" and bought this DVD. Only real downside is that Rudy does NOT cover carbide tooling or carbide tooling inserts..both of these of very popular with HSMs who don't know how or want to bother with grinding HSS bits.

As a complete novice I found this presentation outstanding. I was fascinated and sat glued to the chair for several runthroughs. I watched this dvd at least once a day and always picked up something I missed in previous viewings.

I think it was very instructive. I am a beginner at this and numerous things were explained in a way that made me realize what I was doing wrong.

This is a good instructional DVD for those just starting or thinking of starting lathe operation. The presentation shows all the basic lathe operations and how the lathe works. It is a good starting point to decide if metalworking is for you. Rudy makes every thing look so easy, but at the same time he also warns of potential trouble spots. This is a great way to be introduced to the lathe and all of its potential uses

A great DVD for the beginner or novice. As a first introduction to the workings of the machine lathe for the Hobbyist a definite asset. Rudy covers the most common lathe uses and makes every thing look so easy, just as you would expect from a skilled machinist. Filming is a little shaky but not a big detractor. Information and technique outweigh any short comings yes worth renting

Worthwhile. A bit slow at times. The biggest problem is video production. It would help to change the camera angle more often. Sometimes the resolution was not adequate to really see what was going on. However, everything he does, he does well. I should ever know so much about machining.

Even though it's a pretty old production and gives the viewer the impression that it was produced in someone's garage with a home video camera, the content of the DVD is easy enough to understand and if you're looking for a place to start with learning to use the machine lathe this video is certainly worth the rental price.

What can you say, Rudy is just fantastic at describing lathe operation. I can't wait to get the next DVD. I can just imagine what I could learn if he was right by my side.

This video is very helpful to the person who knows a little and wants to progress. I would have appreciated more detail on tool grinding. Excellent production values. I wish I had had the time to watch it several more times. One week is not enough.
