Making the History of an Ancient Tongue Exciting Reading.
Kutscher succeeds where many scholars fail: He manages to write a succinct history of Hebrew, from its prehistoric origins through modern Ivrit in Israel – and does not lose his readers in linguistic arcana! This is a well-organized review, accessible to the lay person without losing any of its scholarly rigeur. The competition is sparse in this area, but compared to the two other volumes I have read on the topic, Kutscher has produced the definitive treatment. Let's wish his book makes it back into print soon!
