Managing for the Future consists of 14 instructional modules that focus on organizational behavior and processes and on how organizations deal with change. At MIT, the organizational behavior course continues to be modeled around the new organization–flat, flexible, networked, diverse, and global. Taking up three theoretical lenses–strategic design, political, and cultural–Ancona et al. show students how these lenses can be used to "read" and "diagnose" organizations and direct managerial action. The modules adopt an innovative design that stresses participation and team-based problem solving. Each opens with a class note that describes the theoretical perspectives underpinning module topics. Additional readings from a variety of influential sources enrich the discussion, and a challenging collection of cases, exercises, projects, and videos ensures that students become better organizational actors as the course progresses.
