Alexander Mackay-Smith is the author of a number of books, including "The Colonial Quarter Race Horse" and "The Race Horses of America: Portraits and Other Paintings by Edward Troye", and was for years editor of the weekly "Chronicle of the Horse". He was the founder and curator of the National Sporting Library in Middleburg, Virginia, and has been associated with the United States Equestrian Team, the American Horse Shows Associate, the Masters of Foxhounds Association of America, the U.S. Pony Clubs, the U.S. Combined Training Association, and the International Alliance of Equestrian Journalists. He was, for twenty seasons, the Master of two Virginia Hunts, and he still rides regularly to hounds.

Jean R. Druesedow is Associate Curator in Charge of The Costume Institute, Metropolitan Museum of Art. She taught speech and theater arts at Miami University, Eastern Kentucky University, and the Mediterranean Division of the University of Maryland, and she joined the staff of The Costume Institute in 1978. She lectures widely on fashion and costume history and is Vice President of the Costume Society of America.

Thomas Ryder is editor of "The Carriage Journal" since 1975 and is actively involved in coaching, both as a participant and as a judge. He was born in England, where he learned to drive at an early age from an uncle who refused to drive an automobile; he moved to Canada in 1954 and to the United States in 1963. He is the author of several books about driving, including "On the Box Seat", "The High Steppers", a history of hackney horses, and "The Road and the Ring", the coaching memoirs of an English horsewoman.
