"Principles of Heat Transfer in Porous Media" by Maasoud Kaviany
Mechanical Engineering Series. 2nd edition
Sрringеr | 1995 | ISBN: 0387942718 9780387942711 | 727 pages | PDF | 5 MB

This monograph reviews in a concise and unified manner recent contributions to the principles of convective heat transfer for single- and multi-phase systems: It summarizes the role of the fundamental mechanism, discusses the governing differential equations, describes approximation schemes and phenomenological models, and examines their solutions and applications.

This book provides descriptions of single- and two-phase flows and of heat transfer in porous media. The author presents the fundamentals of fluid mechanics, conduction, convection (including dispersion), and radiation, starting from first principles and then applying volume-averaging techniques. For phenomena for which a complete theoretical treatment is not available semi-empirical treatments are given. Special attention is given to hydrodynamics, dispersion, and phase changes at and near the surfaces bounding the porous medium.
The aim is to provide practicing engineers and researchers with the tools needed to deal with heat transfer in the porous media encountered in geological, environmental, petrochemical, and other industrial processes.
This second edition has been corrected and revised throughout, and contains a new chapter on computations for two-phase flow.

After a review of the basic physics and thermodynamics, the book divides the subject into 2 parts.
Part 1 deals with single-medium transfer, specifically with intraphase transfers in single-phase flows and with intramedium transfers in two-phase flows.
Part 2 deals with fluid-solid transfer processes, both in cases where the interface is small and in cases where it is large, as well as liquid-liquid transfer processes.
