EA-6B Prowler

EA-6B Prowler (Aircraft 35) By Joe Michaels
Publisher: Squadron/Signal Publications Inc. 2004 | 80 Pages | ISBN: 0897474767 | PDF | 37 MB

Evolution of the Grumman EA-6B Prowler from the A-6A Intruder testified to the adage that necessity is the mother of invention. The rapid development of sophisticated weapons that began in World War Two spurred military planners. They called upon the electronic industry to design equipment that would counter the new advances in radar-guided weapons systems. In the early 1960s, the new A-6A attack aircraft was viewed as an aircraft with definitive advantages in its ability to accommodate electronic jamming equipment. Its spacious cockpit interior, fuel capacity, and sturdy design were key features that led to the decision of the United States Navy's Bureau of Weapons to go forward with the EA-6A, sometimes unofficially called the 'electric' Intruder.
