This book is a new look at the Cold War. Archive material is only now becoming available that shows that covert action was much more important than we thought before. Also, Scandinavia and the Northern Front were more on NATO planners' minds than hitherto realised. Norway, Sweden and West Germany were countries looking at coexistence with the Soviet Union. Britain and the USA were afraid of losing their grip over NATO.
With a peacenik Labour government in Norway pushing the peace-line with Moscow, the British were afraid of losing Scandinavia. They feared that the peace virus from Norway would spread to Sweden and so they launched a campaign of submarine operations aimed at destabilising the Swedish government. This is one of the best new books on the Cold War and will totally change your view of the conflict.
The Swedish prime minister Olof Palme - target of the Anglo-American destabilisation campaign - is almost forgotten today, but his theory of Common Security was instrumental at persuading Gorbachev to end the Cold War.
My other book, the Life and Death of Olof Palme, asks the question whether Palme was assassinated by the Western deep state, just as Kennedy - another man of peace - was 25 years earlier
Obviously, it's an extremely sensitive subject since Sweden is friends with the United States, especially now when NATO is pushing Sweden to join the alliance.
