The Author, a German National, was interned by the British at Dehra Dun in India. In 1942, he and a colleague, Heins von Have escaped and, posing as British officers, began an epic journey across India and into Burma, where they crossed the front line. Surrendering themselves to the Japanese, they came within an ace of execution as spies. After exhaustive questioning by the feared Secret Police they were eventually sent to Japan. This almost unbelievable story is true. Their bravery and resilience in the face of extraordinary adversity makes this an adventure story of major proportions. Their chances of survival, let alone success, were indeed, zero.
