What do the words "nonlinear spectral theory" really mean? We can say that the subject of this theory includes the investigation of such problems concerning nonlinear operators which, in the linear case, belong to the linear spectral theory. These lecture notes deal with two groups of problems the study of which has come near to some final results even in the nonlinear case. The corresponding problems in the linear case may be formulated as follows:
1. Solvability of the equation lu - A(u) = f.
2. Investigation of the set ]~ of all eigenvalues.
