Upon the death cf Carloc III of Spain, in 1788, the Spanish Army con­sisted of twenty eight Spanish infantry regiments, twelve foreign infantry regiments, three light infantry regiments, twelve line cavalry regiments, eight dragoon regiments, and two cazadore (light cavalry) regiments. The Spanish army was organized, drilled, and fought in the manner established by Frederick the Great of Prussia.
