The Price of Silence: The Duke Lacrosse Scandal, the Power of the Elite, and the Corruption of Our Great Universities By William D. Cohan
2014 | 653 Pages | ISBN: 1451681798 | EPUB + MOBI | 3 MB + 2 MB

To start, the topic is compelling. It is just that the narrative pacing of the book & the behavior of the primary actors (the Dramatis Personae) in and around the incident are buried in an overwhelming plethora of background data. Some background is good, but this work bogs down in it, big time. Additionally, the work is way too long for a good understanding of what happened. The background information actually interferes with the flow of the narrative. Basically, all of the author's research & background information, including the proverbial kitchen sink, was tossed in to the mix. It should have run about 1/2 of its 640 pages. I believe that a serious talk with a good editor would have produced a much shorter and better book.
