As one who has been to Cuba twice, and has every intention of spending serious time there in the future, I found this book to be very well worth reading. It contains much useful information, most of it in line with my experiences and what a close Cuban friend has told me. As the author points out, Cuba is not a monolithic country; what is true for one person, or place, or time, may not hold for someone else, so I can not say anything in here is wrong. These elements of variety help make Cuba so interesting! I do have two complaints, however. First, in the religion section, no mention was made of the rapid growth of evangelical Protestanism, especialy among younger (below 30) people. Second, in the section about what tourists can bring, some updating might be in order. In an era of digital cameras, cell-phone cameras, and laptop computers, telling how many rolls of film are allowed, or that typewriters can be brought in, seems out-of-date. But all in all, I would highly recommend this book to anyone planning to travel to Cuba.
