Side weirs are used widely in order to divert flows from rivers, canals, sewers and reservoirs. However, the hydraulic behaviour of this type of weir is complex and difficult to predict accurately by simple methods.
This invaluable book presents a new design procedure that was developed by analysing published data on the performance of side weirs and using the results to calibrate a predictive numerical model. Presented in the form of graphs and simplified equations, this new method enables the flow rate discharged by a side weir to be determined by direct calculation.
